At Roka, we are proud to present the eighth installment of our featured exhibition series: “under my skin” by artist Mio Yamato.
Yamato is an artist who has long explored the rhythms of life and the dynamic flow of wholes born from the accumulation of minute elements, using repeated dots and lines in her practice.
In this exhibition, created in collaboration with Shimadzu Corporation, a global leader in analytical and measuring instruments, Yamato observed her own blood cells through a digital microscope. The resulting imagery has been meticulously rendered onto canvas and multilayered supports.
The countless red cellular particles appear at times to float, at other times to pulsate, visualizing the energy of life that circulates tirelessly within our bodies.
These works—situated at the intersection of the microscopic and the physical, science and sensation—invite us to reconsider what it means to be alive.
We welcome you to experience the vivid landscape of life that Yamato has captured here in Naoshima.
